My usual routine in the morning is devotions and reading. I try to not miss that time because is really sets the tone for my day. The last few days were a bit off schedule for me and my devotions were happening in the wee hours of the morning. But, today, I got up my usual time to pray when I heard God say to read Joshua 1:1-9. Now the story talks of God's leading Joshua and the people of Israel on to the promised land after Moses' death. In those few short scriptures, God tells Joshua to be courageous at least 3 times. I was struck by that when it was revealed to me that this is the message for my own life in this moment.
I've been working on this blog, a book, and starting a business for a while now. It has not been easy to do for me because I tend to get in my own way. I am one of those people who like to strive for perfection, not realizing our version of perfect can really be a hindrance to our efforts of accomplishing even the simplest things. So I tend to take longer finishing things all in the effort of reaching perfection. Today, however, God challenged me to put aside my agenda and without much planning, do my live video on Facebook.
For those that know me, I've been speaking and singing in front of people for most of my life. Going live should be a very easy task for me, but that was not the case. I felt like I needed to do this a few weeks ago, but I kept putting it off. Today, the unction was much stronger and God sent confirmation in the form of a new friend who spoke the same thing. The story I was reading on being courageous was one I needed in my attempt to do something that was taking me out of my comfort zone.
You know what? I did it! I did my first Facebook Live and it really wasn't that bad. While I was tempted to tear it apart and look at whatever negative I could find, I chose to celebrate the fact that I overcame another fear. You see, that's what life is really about. In order for us to truly live out the plan of God for our lives we are going to have to face those uncomfortable downright fearful moments. The blessing in that is knowing we don't have to face it alone. In the story, God reminds Joshua that just as He was with Moses, God would also be with Joshua. And I want to let you know, the same God that kept these men in the bible to go on and achieve the greatness that was promised to them, will be with you, too.
So, go be strong and be very courageous in pursuing whatever God has laid on your heart to do. It won't always feel comfortable and it might be downright scary, but know that you are never alone. God says in Hebrews 13:5 that He'll never leave us nor forsake us. We can always count on Him being there for us no matter what.
I'm rooting for you,
Wanda
